He attended St. Joseph’s University from 1972 to 1976, getting a bachelor’s degree in biology. He was then accepted to Jefferson Medical College, graduating in 1980. He did his Internal Medicine residency at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center from 1980 to 1983, and was appointed chief resident in Internal Medicine in 1983. He went into private practice in 1983, becoming board-certified in both Internal Medicine (the study of adults) and Geriatrics (the study of the elderly).
He was a Clinical Instructor in Medicine in the volunteer faculty division, for Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He was the medical staff treasurer for Cooper Hospital for over 25 years. He was vice president of the American Medical Student Association while in medical school, and a member of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the New Jersey and Camden County medical societies. He’s been an attending physician at Virtua Health, at the Voorhees and Marlton divisions, since 1984. He has been listed as a ‘Top Doc’ in South Jersey Magazine. He is a medical director of a local hospice, and is medical director at local rehabilitation and nursing facilities.
Married with three sons, Dr. Maro has a broad range of personal interests. He is an experienced musician, playing in various rock ‘n roll bands since the age of 13. He plays keyboards, electric guitar, 12- string guitar, percussion, and banjo He was the owner of a liquor store and wine shop for over 25 years, and became a local expert in wine. He has a strong interest in US history, with a focus on military history, as one of his sons is a retired Marine major. He is a strong advocate for the Philadelphia sports teams, and has been a season ticket holder for the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Flyers for over 40 years.
He moved to Delaware in 2015, and maintains an apartment in Cherry Hill so that he can continue his practice of medicine in Voorhees, New Jersey. He enjoys a long walk on a local trail, and a cool breeze near the beach.
His personal medical philosophy is that you have to listen to the patient, as they will tell you what is wrong with them. He does not tap on the computer while the patient is in the room, as he cannot pay attention to both the patient and the computer at the same time. He believes medicine should be involved in a more personal kind of caring. As such, all phone calls to him are returned the same day, and after-hour messages are relayed to him at 7 AM the next day. He has same-day appointments, and an attentive medical staff able to handle all serious issues.
